Masses of Metals and Concrete by Moonlight

Things are moving on in San Stefanos. 90 square metres of metals for the 'box' have been laid and the concrete poured.

There was a small problem when a concrete lorry broke down which meant the light was fading somewhat, when the concrete was finally poured. Fortunately the end result looks pretty smooth (well, from the photographs it looks OK, at least)

Now it's time to stop for a few weeks - it's Christmas!! See you in 2009.

Riots in Greece, Sterling Slumps, Building Starts

The news is full of the rioting in Greece, which has reached Corfu town but not San Stefanos , thank goodness. And today the pound has fallen again - we now get just over 1 Euro for a pound - it wont be long before the pound is worth less than a euro
But we can now see the shape of the basement 'box' of Mia Mera so, for us, there is some good news in all the gloom.

Tornado watch

There has been a mini tornado in San Stefanos and the damage to some properties has been considerable.
Thanassis sent us these pictures of his own home, the roof tiles and chimney blown away. Other properties in San Stefanos and the neighbouring Aviloties were even more severely damaged.

November in San Stefanos

There were some things to sort out in San Stefanos before building work could start, so Marc travelled out via Heathrow and Athens to spend a week in the sunshine. Unfortunately no one told the sunshine to make an appearance until the last 2 days, but apart from that all went well.

We've now agreed the position of the basement 'box', the number of arches and the doors and windows. The architect amended the building specs for George, the builder, and it's all systems go - we just need someone to tell the weather.

"One Day"

It didn't take very many visits to San Stefanos in the North West of Corfu, for us to start day dreaming about owning a little house there - somewhere overlooking the bay, where we could hear and see the sea. We would look at houses and plots of land that occasionally came up for sale and would say "One day" .
And now we are starting to build our house - to be called Mia Mera, the greek for "One Day".

Thanassis, our brilliant greek friend, whose family have lived in San Stefanos for ever, is project managing the build for us and has started to send the first photos - so here goes.
